O Taki is a japonicum with large leaves that takes full sun very well. In the spring the light green leaves with pale green veins unfurl with silvery hairs on them before they splay out in large drooping leaves that are green, pastel peach, light yellow and pale orange in color. It holds spring color well. While the summer leaf color is green, in the autumn O Taki puts on quite a show with its huge leaves turning reddish-purple. It's a dramatic plant.
After removing a thicket from a canyon behind our home in 2003, we started learning about Japanese maples, became obsessed by them, and now have about 400 different varieties of Japanese maples. Each year we find new and wonderful varieties, meet other maple collectors and growers, and our garden has become a sensation.
