Aka Shigatatsu Sawa 10/18/06
Aka Shigatatsu Sawa is certain one of the showiest plants in the Spring garden. It leafs out pale pink/salmon in color, then shows off in violent pinks, creams, yellows and greens before summer.
The earlier photo of Aka Shigatatsu Sawa in the spring mentioned the red fall color of the tree, as pictured here. There is no getting around the fact that this is a magnificent plant: guests are always drawn to it. It has a lovely shape and in spring and fall puts on quite a show.
After removing a thicket from a canyon behind our home in 2003, we started learning about Japanese maples, became obsessed by them, and now have about 400 different varieties of Japanese maples. Each year we find new and wonderful varieties, meet other maple collectors and growers, and our garden has become a sensation.
