Beni Shi En 4/25/07

This most unusual cultivar is a real star. It's receiving full sun in our orchard area and is doing exceedingly well, with lots of variegation on each leaf. It's growing nicely. This tree deserves far more attention because it's really special.

Rilas Red 4/10/07

From ten feet away, Rilas Red looks something like dark red cotton candy on a tree's stem. The tiny filaments which make up the leaves' lobes are so tiny that they seem like spider webs or the tiny fibers used in optics. A wonderfully busy little tree.

Beni Shidare 10/20/06

Beni Shidare means "red cascading" and it's a deeply red pendulous dissectum. It has a mounding form and can get big (up to 5 meters high and 6 meters wide). It's bronze in the summertime. I'll post more on this cultivar as I learn more. It's new to my garden.

Tamuke Yama 5/20/06

Tamuke Yama is an elegant cascading dissectum leafing out dark red in spring and then turning purple/red, a color it maintains throughout the summer. The fall color is vivid red. While some consider Tamuke Yama relatively ordinary in the maple world, it's a hardy and reliably gorgeous plant which is reason enough to justify its popularity.

Shishio Improved 4/11/05

Shishio Improved is known for its intense bright red spring color, a color that holds well for several weeks. Fabulous spring plant.
