Koto No Ito is one of my favorite trees. In the spring its elongated lobes unfurl like a bunch of messy spaghetti eventually evolving into long and elegant lobes colored fresh spring yellow/pale green. The summer color is green, and in the fall the color is vivid orange, red and yellow. The long lobes on this tree make it especially noticeable in a light breeze, as all the lobes flow and undulate with the wind. This is a gorgeous tree all year.
After removing a thicket from a canyon behind our home in 2003, we started learning about Japanese maples, became obsessed by them, and now have about 400 different varieties of Japanese maples. Each year we find new and wonderful varieties, meet other maple collectors and growers, and our garden has become a sensation.
