This particular tree is planted under a canopy of old rather dense madrones and therefore receives only mild filtered light which protects it from leaf scorch. That said, it produces the most fabulous array of colors. De Shojo is gorgeous in the spring with intense colors, elegant and green in the summer, and magnificent in the fall with the full array of autumn tones. And yes, I live in southern Oregon.
After removing a thicket from a canyon behind our home in 2003, we started learning about Japanese maples, became obsessed by them, and now have about 400 different varieties of Japanese maples. Each year we find new and wonderful varieties, meet other maple collectors and growers, and our garden has become a sensation.

Beautiful leaves, is the tree planted in the sun or shade? Do you live in the Northwestern US?
