Yezo Nishiki may not be the showiest tree in the garden, but it certainly ranks amongst the best. The coloration is relatively subtle, but its spread across leaves of many sizes, all perfectly proportioned to the rest. The spring colors are lovely green-based with orange, red and pink overlays all contrasting beautifully with bright green veins. This is a special plant which deserve more attention and is one of my favorites.
After removing a thicket from a canyon behind our home in 2003, we started learning about Japanese maples, became obsessed by them, and now have about 400 different varieties of Japanese maples. Each year we find new and wonderful varieties, meet other maple collectors and growers, and our garden has become a sensation.
