Cynthia's Crown Jewel is probably destined for the Zen Garden (or small garden) where one can easily hover over individual plants. This tree is best when viewed from above where one can see the new growth (rosy pinkish/red) leaves opposing each other. The net effect is that of a colorful crown on top of the plant, hence its name. This is a delicate plant in appearance, and a delightful addition to the garden.
After removing a thicket from a canyon behind our home in 2003, we started learning about Japanese maples, became obsessed by them, and now have about 400 different varieties of Japanese maples. Each year we find new and wonderful varieties, meet other maple collectors and growers, and our garden has become a sensation.
